Construction and practice of the “teaching participant” model in Zoology Experiment course

To improve the experimental teaching practice ability of normal university students majoring in Bioscience, this paper took the Zoology Experiment course as the starting point, constructed and implemented a “teaching participant”-oriented student participatory teaching model, and explored the cultivation paths of normal university students’ professional literacy in professional experimental teaching. Based on the demands of literacy cultivation for normal university students, the solution of teaching problems and the disciplinary characteristics of the course, this model defined the collective and individual responsibilities of teaching participants, optimized the teaching design around the whole links of pre-class preparation, in-class implementation and post-class arrangement, and promoted the teaching implementation in a modular and progressive manner according to micro-animal, medium-animal and large-animal experiments, thus forming a closed-loop cultivation system featuring full-process participation and multi-dimensional training. Teaching practice showed that this model effectively improved normal university students’ literacy in experimental teaching organization, language expression and classroom management, and stimulated their learning initiative and innovative thinking. Relying on this model, normal university students won 11 awards in teaching skill and discipline competitions at or above the university level (5 at the university level and 6 at the provincial and national levels). The course was rated as a university-level first-class offline course and a model course for curriculum ideological and political education. The course team completed 1 university-level special project on teaching reform and applied for 1 provincial-level research project of the higher education society. This study provides a reference for the teaching reform of experimental courses for the Bioscience major in relevant universities.
