Research progress on the application of plasma technology in grains treatment

The application progress of plasma technology in grain seed treatment, quality improvement, and processing and storage were reviewed. In terms of seed treatment, this technology can effectively enhance the vitality of grain seeds and crop stress resistance, dielectric barrier discharge plasma-activated water was found to enhance water absorption and growth indicators in soybeans; radiofrequency plasma treatment improved wheat germination rates and enhanced root activity; cold plasma treatment induced drought resistance in oats. In terms of quality improvement, this technology can sterilize and degrade toxins, improve nutritional and physiological quality, and processing performance, thereby enhancing grain quality. Low temperature plasma can effectively degrade vomitoxin in wheat grains; cold plasma treatment can enhance the antioxidant enzyme activity in peanuts and increase the wet gluten content of wheat seeds. In terms of processing and storage, this technology helps to ensure the quality of grain storage and extend the shelf life, cold plasma treatment of rice significantly improved its cooking properties and effectively extended its safe storage period. Plasma technology demonstrates application potential across multiple aspects of grain, providing new technological insights for agricultural production and food processing.
