Planting patterns of single-sided flower border in Hefei

Based on the investigation of flower border in Hefei City, Anhui Province, this article analyzed the current application status, combination types, core elements of construction, and plant planting patterns of single-sided flower border in this area. The results showed that, the plants used in the single-sided flower border in this area total 380 species, belonging to 79 families and 238 genera. They encounter certain challenges in terms of plant combination and arrangement, element matching, and maintenance management. The 5 forms of plant planting in the study area for single-sided flower border were leaf-viewing + flower-viewing herbaceous plants, flower-viewing herbaceous plants + leaf-viewing shrubs, flower-viewing herbaceous plants + flower-viewing shrubs, flower-viewing herbaceous plants + flower-viewing shrubs + leaf-viewing shrubs, and leaf-viewing herbaceous plants + flower-viewing herbaceous plants + leaf-viewing shrubs + flower-viewing shrubs. The constituent elements of single-sided flower border include horizontal structure, three-dimensional structure, seasonal change and color change. The main configuration modes of single-sided flower border are divided into 3 categories: the first is the forest-edge single-sided flower bed, which is set against a backdrop of forest plant communities and features perennial flowers as the main planting elements, with the characteristics of rich colors and full layers; the second is the road-side single-sided flower border, which is set against buildings or hedges, mainly planting annual and biennial flowers, bulbous flowers, and perennial flowers, and combining with pruned shrubs in geometric shapes, tropical-flavored shrubs, and ornamental grasses; the third is the wall single-sided flower bed, which is set against scenery walls, retaining walls, fences, or transparent fences, using a large patch planting method, with bulbous and perennial flowers as the main elements, supplemented by a small amount of annual and biennial herbaceous flowers. This article provides a reference for the design of single-sided flower border in relevant cities.
